What really pissed me off was the 3,000 mile oil changes.

That will probably go on for ever VA. I was happy when the Jeep made it to Home Depot and back.

I bought the Acura 'unseen' two hours after we landed at Dulles in 2008. We'd moved back to the US and needed a car immediately. $23k, 36k miles. Does about 17/gallon, V6 engine.

It's now up to 138k. in 2014 the engine light came on and i had to spend $6k before it passed inspection. Either side of that, apart from the odd switch and oil changes, nothing. I use it for dog walks, food shopping and driving to the beach. Predictable car.

I drive a convertible M3 at the weekend.

With that sort of budget avoid a Range Rover like the plague. It WILL bankrupt you.

Got an A4 3.0tdi Quattro estate, which you can get in your budget.
Had it 3 years, spent nothing (apart from services), plenty of power etc, although some say is bit crampe d in back.
Could always go for an A6

Got an 8 yr old Q7. After quite a lot of new bits (car dealer friend got it from auction for me) and pissing about it has been going great. I really like it but I am too big and fat to get a smaller car

I wouldn't buy any of them, especially not German cars but thats because I value long term reliability over other factors (do a little research on car brand reliability and you'll see), you may have different priorities in which case that doesnt matter.

Toyota Rav 4 costs half what a BMW does and should be more reliable, as Jap cars usually are. But less fun or luxurious than BMW or Audi course. Honda almost as good as Toyota reliability but with a bit more fun or Lexus for more luxury and if you dont mind not having a manual.

I had a Volvo XC90 about 10 years ago (it was probably about 4 years old) and it was great and in three years all I spent was servicing and diesel.

Think it was a 2.5ltr and wasn't bad at all and 7 seats as well.

For that money you can get a Honda CR-V with all the trimmings and you will know it will go forever.

Honda know how to make cars that go and stay going
